Mahogany Bookcases
Mahogany wood is one of the most popular woods for bookcases.
Mahogany has many varieties; its most frequent appearance is as a stained,
reddish wood. It is also perhaps the classic wood
sed for old-style British bookcases, although some would
argue that in the larger scheme of British history, oak book cases have that
honor. It's also important to keep in mind that the mahogany you see in antiques
is no longer available; rain forest mahogany is now protected and it's not
usable
for furniture. It starts out a fairly bright pink, and
gradually ages, faster in the presence of sunlight, to the dark red color that
people normally associate with cherry bookshelves. That process does happen
overnight. If you're wiling to wait, though, Molton Bookcases is proud to offer cherry
built-in bookcases and cherry
freestanding bookcases.
Mahogany is a hardwood; it is available from Indonesia,
Honduras and several other tropical countries, although unlike cherry bookcases,
it is not grown in the United States.
