Bookcase FinishingBuilt-ins and freestanding pieces may be either painted or stained. The general rule is that light finishes, such as white paint, brighten an area; while darker finishes provide a more formal, elegant look. If painted, we provide a top quality painted finish. You choose the color (including contrasting back colors, if desired). The examples of stains shown on this page are on oak pieces, so the effect will differ on other woods. We can provide you samples of any other wood you choose in the entire range of stain options. Please note that the darker the stain, the more variation will occur in color density across the wood.All stains are topcoat finished with semi-gloss polyurethane. This provides a highly attractive luster and helps to protect the finish from abrasion and scratching. Because our products are made of real hardwood, which varies in color and character, and because all our finishes are applied by hand, we cannot guarantee an exact match of an existing color, nor can we guarantee that your furniture will age in a manner similar to other furniture you may have.
