Bookcase Construction--How To Build A Bookcase

As shown in the diagram below, all our work is held together by screwed joinery, not staples or nails. Shelves fit into dadoes (grooves) in the sides and the front of each shelf is rounded over.

Each side, shelf, and edge is selected for quality and appearance. We use no particleboard, only

wood.
All pieces are made from fine sanded genuine hardwood veneer plywood, trimmed with solid wood edges. Our furniture is hand-glued and clamped; we do not use non-durable hot-melt adhesives.

We construct our pieces from plywood: top-quality birch, cherry, pine, maple, oak, walnut and mahogany plywood. We also offer other plywood in special order.

While the back of a bookcase that is visible is of course finished, and is the same wood as the bookcase (or hardboard in the case of painted bookcases); the non-visible side is not finished and the bookcases are designed to stand against a wall.
