Amish Bookcases and Other Furniture
A very popular type of furniture is Amish furniture.
There are innumerable variations on the theme, including cherry Amish furniture, pine
Amish furniture,
and even mahogany Amish furniture and maple Amish bookcases.
The Amish consist of a tight-knit religious and ethnic group
of overwhelmingly Swiss-German ancestry. Although much, and perhaps most, of "Amish" furniture is not
actually produced by Amish, a large quantity of such bookcases and other
furniture is, particularly in Indiana and Pennsylvana. Even though no particular
item of of a seller's furniture is truly "Amish," the
style can encompass others, such as Shaker furniture, which tends to have the
same simple lines, related to Craftsman bookcases or Stickley bookcases, or
even Arts &
Crafts (although those latter ones tend to be more curved and complex).
